Mezzie and Frank Sanding Block
Another one of those essential start up purchases for all chalk painters is this Mezzie and Frank sanding block. This sanding block has two grades of sandpaper so you can choose which is most appropriate for your chalk painting job. In between coats of Mezzie and Frank Chalk paint use this sanding block to give a very light sand. After your final coat, sand until you are happy with the look you have created. This is really the artistic moment. When you are happy, lightly dust off your piece before applying carnauba wax
- for a durable finish and to bring out the depth of colour in your chalk paint. Other finishes are possible too. You might like dark finishing polish
- for a deeping of colour and shadow effect. A different finish can be achieved with clear acrylic sealer. I use this for outdoor pieces facing the weather
Your sanding block is a really essential part of your chalk painting toolkit. It will last a good while if you use it in between coats and to achieve that distressed look on your painted furniture. Be sure to sand lightly before applying any wax. The smoothing of the chalky surface is really important so that the wax goes on smoothly and can then achieve that soft yet durable finish. After use, especially with the stronger colours, pat off your sanding bock firmly to dislodge colour particles.
